I sat at my haunted set and moved a pawn.  And waited.

As usual, I didn't see Remiss appear.  I just finally noticed that she was there.  She sprawled across the ramparts of one of her rooks, smiling up at me.

I love that smile.  I might love it less if she were more than an inch tall.  But she isn't, and the worst she's ever done to me is a victory dance over my fallen king.

The same time I noticed the little demon, I realized that a pawn had moved.  I responded and the game went forward.  My opponent stretched, lights glinting off of the corset, boots and helm.  They shone like liquid obsidian oozing across her form as she climbed down and walked across the board.

Much as I enjoyed the view, the distraction nearly cost me my queen, far too early in the game.  I retreated hastily.

Remiss laughed.  "Nearly had you, delightful child."  She beckoned a bishop and it slid towards her.  She produced small batons and guided it into place as if it were a plane at a terminal.

"I must admit, your physical form is attractive," I said, "but I think I keep coming back so you can call me a kid."

"You are a child," she said.  "Anything that's come into being since the Universe was born is, to me."

Arthritis spiked in my wrist as I moved a knight.  "Yes, Mistress," I said with a small bow.
